Lily Shaila Smith is a Leeds-based artist working across a range of disciplines including printmaking, text, collage and handwoven tapestry. Lily’s work investigates the concept of rituals and shrines. As the pandemic has progressed, lockdown has provided more and more times of solitude, and with the absence of ritual Lily formed her own. Lily’s monoprints serve as a vehicle for expressing and unravelling the complications of grieving her mother’s unexpected death. The unpredictable nature of printmaking provides a welcomed disconnect from the vulnerabilities that come with expressing grief and trauma.
